Careers Advice for the Next Generation of Nurses
Our Treatment Room Nurse Karen and Student Nurse Tania, today visited pupils at Cockermouth School to discuss future careers in nursing.

Talking to Year 12 pupils who have an interest in the world of healthcare, our nurses spent time explaining their roles and types of care that they provide our patients here in surgery.
One pupil was currently in the process of applying for a place to study Children’s Nursing at University and received plenty of tips and advice from our nurses.
Having Tania, our student nurse attend the talk was perfect and was on hand to answer any questions about applying, interviews, how the scheme runs and qualifications.
Karen explained that the role of a nurse is one of caring but also involves leadership, management and being able to problem solve. It is so important to sell yourself at your interview, go for it! They spent time looking at the pupils personal statement and wished them the very best for the future.

It was an excellent event and feedback received from the school was great and we are looking to repeat the event in the future, possibly talking to other age groups. We are really keen to build our relationship with the community and breakdown barriers to the younger patients that it is ok to talk to Doctors and nurses, they are approachable and are there to listen.
These children may be our future NHS staff and to promote the work we do in General Practice is so important.
