Important Update: GP Changes at Castlegate and Derwent Surgery

Several of our GPs including Dr Kinghan and Dr McLaughlin will be leaving Castlegate and Derwent Surgery in January 2026.

We are very grateful for their dedication and the excellent care they have provided to our patients over the years. They will be greatly missed, and we wish them every success in their future careers.

We understand this news may cause concern. Please be assured that we are actively recruiting new GPs and strengthening our wider clinical team to ensure that your care continues safely and smoothly.

During this time, there may be longer waits for some appointments, and we kindly ask for your patience and understanding while we manage this period of transition. Please “be kind” to our receptionist team who will be your first point of contact.

Your health and wellbeing remain our highest priority, and our entire team is committed to supporting you throughout this change.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Mrs Claire Raven
Practice Manager

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Which GPs are leaving the practice?

  • Several of our GPs including Dr Kinghan and Dr McLaughlin will be leaving us in January 2026.  Dr Rudman recently left the practice in September. They have each made a valued contribution to our patients and community, and we wish them all the best in their future careers.

How will this affect my care?

  • We are doing everything possible to minimise disruption. You may notice slightly longer waiting times for routine appointments while we recruit new doctors, but our wider healthcare team including Nurse Practitioners, Physician Associates, Pharmacists, and Nurses, will continue to support your care.

Will I still be able to see a GP?

  • Yes. We will continue to have GPs available for both routine and urgent appointments. However, you might not always see the same GP, and we may offer you an appointment with another member of our experienced clinical team who can best meet your needs.

Do I need to register with another practice?

  • No. You do not need to take any action. All your care, medical records, and repeat prescriptions will remain safely and securely managed by us.

What is the practice doing to replace the doctors who are leaving?

  • We are actively recruiting new GPs and expanding our wider team to ensure we continue providing high-quality, accessible care. Recruitment is already under way, and we’ll update patients as new team members join.

How can I help or support the practice during this time?

  • You can help by:
    • Using online services (NHS App and website, eConsult, prescription requests, etc.) where possible
    • Being kind, patient and understanding with our team as we adjust to staffing changes
    • Following guidance from our reception and care navigation team — they’ll direct you to the most appropriate healthcare professional

How will I know when new GPs have joined

  • We’ll share updates on our website and on our Facebook page once new doctors join the team.

Who can I contact if I have concerns?

  • If you have any concerns or specific questions about your care, please contact the Practice Manager or speak with a member of our management team. We’re here to help and appreciate your continued patience and support.
