April is IBS awareness month

Did you know that 10-20% of people will experience symptoms of IBS at some point in their lives but many people don't actually seek any help or advice?

It's not always easy to talk about, but IBS is much more common than you think. It can be painful, unpredictable, embarrassing and emotionally challenging, impacting on everyday life and wellbeing.

It's not known what causes it and it's not the same for everyone but symptoms can include:

  • abdominal pain
  • constipation and/or diarrhoea
  • abdominal bloating
  • excessive wind.

For more information and advice visit www.nhs.uk.

Here at Castlegate & Derwent Surgery we take part in many research studies including a one for IBS patients.

If you are suffering from IBS-D and would be interested to participate in a research study please contact Jackie Smith our Reseach nurse on 01900 705750.
